Mode of action or general info:

^^ Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic used in veterinary medicine. It has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive organisms and a limited range of Gram-negative organisms.

Tylosin is used for bacterial infections in a wide range of species and has a high margin of safety. It has also been used as a growth stimulant in some species, and as a treatment for colitis in companion animals.

The method of work 
Like other macrolides, Tylosin has a bacteriostatic effect on susceptible organisms, resulting from inhibition of protein conformation through binding.

Scope of activity
Tylosin has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, and Erysibilothrix. It has a much narrower Gram-negative spectrum of activity, but has been shown to be active against Campylobacter coli and some spirochete species. It has also been shown to be highly active against Mycoplasma species.

Indications of Tylosin Powder veterinary:

This product is used for the treatment of Mycoplasma Meligredes which is the essential reason for nasal sinusitis in Turkeys, to treat chronic cold in Chicken caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.

Contraindications:

^^ Administration of Tylosin should be avoided in animals with a known allergy to the product or to other macrolides.
Tylosin may increase digitalis levels in the blood, and thus its toxicity, and may be an antagonist to chloramphenicol or lincosamide.

Side Effects:

It may cause diarrhea and gastrointestinal disorders.

Usage and dosage for Tylosin Powder veterinary:

It is used with drinking water.
Poultry: 0.5 gr Tylosin base for each liter of drinking water for successive 3-5 days according to the degree of infection.

Warnings:

* It is not given to horses.
* Because Tylosin has a relatively weak spectrum of activity against Gram-negative organisms, it may not be a reasonable therapeutic option in the treatment of infections caused by unknown, potentially non-susceptible organisms.

Withdrawal Period:

For meat: 5 days, for eggs: 3 days.
